Welcome to Help Progressives Win.
One of the best ways to help progressives win is by increasing the number of registered voters.
From my comment in kos' diary Forget Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Third Way has figured out how to get you REALLY pumped!Like kos says, "There are more of us than there are of them". But it won't matter if we don't get our Voters to cast a ballot.
In my own state of Washington, there are about 560,000 eligible voters who aren't registered.
From the Census Bureau data:Overall, 131 million people voted in 2008, a turnout increase of about 5 million people since 2004. During this same 4-year period, the voting-age citizen population in the United States increased by roughly 9 million people.
In 2008, 71 percent of voting-age citizens were registered to vote, a decrease compared to the 72 percent who were registered in 2004. The 2008 election had a higher registration rate than the presidential election of 2000, but was not statistically different from the 1996 rate. Overall, 146 million people were registered to vote in 2008, an increase of approximately 4 million people since 2004.
So with 131 million voting in 2008, and a 71% registration rate (146 million), we saw 15 million already registered voters who failed to cast a ballot.
But with nearly 30% of the eligible Voters failing to even register, an amazing 59,633,802, that brings the total of those who COULD vote, but either didn't register or vote to 74,633,802.
Imagine what our nation COULD look like if we could get just half of those people to vote? I believe we could send the crazy Republicans packing. So please, come join me on Voters R US. We will be using a formula which has been extremely effective in the state of Virginia this year (where they've registered over 100,000 new voters since Jan 2015).
You want a better country? Then we need a better government at all levels. The only way to get that, is to get more people registered and casting a ballot.
The journey of a 1,000 miles begins with the first step.
Take yours, send me a Invite Request to join Voters R US and let's get the ball rolling!
Due to a WA State election just days away on this coming Tuesday, I'm highlighting two local candidates who could be the progressive change we need here and two long-time state politicians, one looking to move up from the State House to the State Executive branch and the other the likely candidate to replace Harry Reid as Majority Leader should the Democratic Base find it's way to showing up and VOTING in numbers too big to ignore in 2016.
