Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another.

Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.

THIS IS AN OPEN THREAD

#ObstructionOfJustice Music Monday

Unless you were on a vacation to the farthest reaches of the Outback of Australia, you know that (once again) our feckless would-be leader in the White House did something and then said he didn’t do it.

Only this time, it might’ve been a step too far, because it looks like he confessed to all the world that he did indeed engage in Obstruction of Justice in the firing of the FBI Director, James Comey.

Here’s the now infamous tweet

x

I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 2, 2017

Meanwhile, the man he fired because he wouldn’t leave Flynn or the Russian Connection alone, is sending out messages like this:

x

“Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.” - Thomas Jefferson, Jan. 28, 1786 pic.twitter.com/LEvy1hHRPI

— James Comey (@Comey) November 25, 2017

Time to do what Americans do best when faced with the under-handed and malicious machinations of would-be Kings: STAND UNITED and fight back.

You Can’t Save the World Alone — it takes a whole team of Superheroes to fight evil in the cinematic world, and it’s gonna take armies of Americans to push our current Congress to act to remove this ridiculously unfit man from the highest Office in the land.

This has been the strangest Presidency in American history. The man came into Office under a cloud of suspicion about Russian influence on the election that put in the White House. He staffed his Cabinet with men and women who have publicly said the very Agency they are now sworn to lead should be eliminated. Nothing suits better the very nature of what we face than Heroes, Stranger Things style …

and because it’s just the way it is for those of us here on the Right Side of History lately, this must be our Song of the Year (and every year we must endure Trump and these noxious Republicans) …

What I did this Weekend

Found a buyer for my lot. Found I have some liens from creditors on the lot. Good: got nearly my asking price $120,000. Bad: Need to spend next week negotiating with creditors to take a fraction of what they want.

Watched the universe lose it’s mind when Trump told the world he committed Obstruction of Justice… and then his team tried to walk that back as a #TeamTweet created by his personal attorney and relayed to the social media director to send out on Twitter.

The problems there?

First, in the tweet is the word “pled”. Funny thing, attorneys don’t use that word. It’s not even in Legal dictionaries, only “plead” is. No lawyer wrote or sent that message. It was #TinyhandsMagoo and it’s gonna be the #MagicBullet which finishes off his disastrous Administration.

Second, courts have ruled the @realDonaldTrump tweets ARE official records and as such are legally admissible in court. Now, if just anyone can write them and not have a system whereby a tweet from the President is marked with a #DJT like the former President did using his @BarackObama account, where his tweets had a  -BO at the end to indicate he personally wrote and sent it out.

So in Trump’s case, are various actors just allowed to send out messaging on any issue under the imprimatur of the President, carrying the weight and authority of the Office?  What if it was the one which finally set off Kim Jong Un into lobbing an ICBM right at the West Coast? That wouldn’t be legal in any way, but it could happen.

How was your weekend?
