USGS Earthquake site reportsthe Earthquake is 7.9 and 280 KM SE of Kodiak, Alaska on 2018-01-23 at 09:31:42 (UTC) 

At 2:22 am PST @MSNBC reporting that buoys a single buoy south of Alaska reported 30 ft wave is heading towards Alaska and Pacific Northwest coastlines. (additional buoys reporting other wave heights)

Approx 2:15 mins until Tsunami Wave will start hitting Alaska and Northern Washington State coastlines. 

Where Tsunami warning sirens exist, they should be going off by now.

Jan 23 - A magnitude 8.2 earthquake hit the Gulf of Alaska in the early hours of Tuesday, prompting authorities to warn people in the area to move away from the coast in case it causes a tsnuami.

The quake hit 256 km (157 miles) southeast of Chiniak, Alaska at a depth of 10 km at 0931 GMT, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

"If you are located in this coastal area, move inland to higher ground. Tsunami warnings mean that a tsunami with significant inundation is possible or is already occurring," Anchorage Office of Emergency Management said in a warning for Alaska and British Columbia.

Tsunami warnings for parts of Alaska and Canada and a tsunami watch for the entire U.S. west coast and Hawaii were issued.

"Based on all available data a tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive on coastal areas even far from the epicenter," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

FYI: the website Tsunami.gov is showing a message that the Federal Government is shut down and only minimal information will be available.

It appears that the entire Pacific plate (the Ring of Fire) was active for the last day, with volcano eruptions in Japan and the Philippines and earthquakes in Jakarta, Indonesia (5.3) and 153 miles off the coast of Kodiak, Alaska (7.9).
