Tonight as the house quieted
I watched some news uninterrupted by the 6 year old grandchild and they were discussing SCOTUS and the words “court packing” made me look up from my Chromebook to the TV screen.
I had watched some of the Stepford Wife Confirmation Hearing already and it’s been on my mind.
So I went a googling for some information on court packing. I decided to start with the best source for the down and dirty data on Supreme Court nominations and seats filled on a partisan basis.
Holy shit, I thought I knew what was what when it came to the Supreme Court. I recognized a lot of names on the page at Senate.gov listing all of the nominees and the presidents who nominated them, and the nominees who failed to pass the Senate.
The numbers alone will astound you
I know they were a gut-punch to me.
The source of the data is the U.S. Senate Supreme Court site: https://www.senate.gov/legislative/nominations/SupremeCourtNominations1789present.htm
Here we go…
Since 1954 and the Dwight D Eisenhower presidency?
Over the past 64 years these are the facts directly from the official website of the U.S. Senate on the Supreme Court of the United States re: presidents and their nominees, both rejected and seated.
Supreme Court since 1954
Nominated to the Court:
24 Republican vs 10 Democratic
Confirmed & seated Justices:
20 Republican vs 8 Democratic
Chief Justices:
Three Republican vs Zero Democratic
So the next time you hear someone on TV mention The Democrats and “court packing” you know that they are just full of shit; because the ONLY people doing any “court packing” of the SCOTUS since Eisenhower was President, have been the gods-be-damned Republicans.
