Do you keep dry goods and bottled water on hand? What about a basic medical kit and simple supplies, like Triple Antibiotic cream and Band-aids?
Do you have a generator, a propane grill or a camp stove w/a filled propane tank for fuel? Do you have a camp or picnic cooler which you can use to store perishable foods in for at least a couple of days?
If you have pets or working animals, do you keep food stocked up just in case?
With the rise in significant storm events, like the torrential rains which have flooded Houston (the 4th largest US city), we can expect to see more and more of these events as time goes one.
No one likes to think about the dangers inherent in our world, but all too often we are visited by one of them and find ourselves without the supplies we need to survive until help can arrive.
So take a peek in your cupboards and garage and storage building, and set up at least one week's worth of dry goods and supplies, especially potable water and/or water tablets (to purify water if boiling is unavailable). The best place to store these supplies? Right inside that camp cooler, most of them are double walled and have a good, solid locking mechanism.
Rotate out the food and water every three months, to ensure you don't end up with ten year old cans of Spaghetti-Os and water that tastes like the north end of a south bound goat.
Tell me - what does YOUR catastrophe box contain, if you have one...
as always...
