My friends at DemCast here in Washington State are asking for the Daily Kos Community to help them spread the word:
There is a bill in our state House to Ban high-capacity firearm magazines.
Tweet #9 has a NPI poll showing 60% of Washington voters WANT this bill to pass.
To make sure it gets passed tomorrow?
We need people to make a Public Comment
From the WA State Attorney General, Bob Ferguson:
The Legislature has 3 days to pass a ban on the sale of high capacity magazines before the opposite house cutoff. #waleg

What Bob is talking about there is this bill (from my friend JY at DemCastWA):
high-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds. The legislation provides limited exemptions for sales to law enforcement & military organizations & allows WA dealers to sell high-capacity magazines to out-of-state buyers. BRIEF BACKGROUND: WA AG Bob Ferguson first 2/12

passed the bill and it's currently in the Civil Rights & Judiciary committee in the House. The State legislature will end its 2022 session in only a few days, so you only have a small window in which to act. IS IT NEEDED?: YES! The worst mass shootings in the USA all 4/12

Mukilteo, WA where a 30 round magazine was used to kill 3 people and injure 1 person. The other was in Burlington, WA where a 25 round magazine was used to kill 5 people. IS THERE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT IT WILL WORK?: YES! The evidence that this policy saves lives is 6/12

It is SUPER easy to make a comment in support of this bill — BUT YOU MUST BE A WA STATE RESIDENT TO DO SO

Here is my comment:
Studies have shown that high capacity magazines lead to more deaths in mass shootings and offer zero positive effects otherwise (my family is full of game hunters and none of them think these magazines should be available to the public). Such a small thing can make such a huge difference to the safety of so many in our state. Please pass this bill so that it can become law in the Evergreen State.
