STOP STEALING people's work and uploading images in violation of the Image Library notice

Every day I open stories and see images which the author of the story uploaded to the Image Library in violation of the warning notice which SHOULD BE IN BIGGER FONT AND BOLDED apparently, because far too many people apparently cannot see it

Before you upload please make sure you own the image or have a license to use it publicly.

A couple years ago, the Daily Kos staff removed YEARS worth of images, many of which were legally uploaded because they were image created by users (I know this, because I’ve been here since 2003 and made and uploaded a boatload of images which were deleted in that purge).

You know why? They got too many “remove” demands from the owners of images which were uploaded into the Image Library by people who did not have the right to do so.

It’s also the timeframe when Daily Kos started using (and paying for access to) Getty Images (which any of you can find and use in the Image Library by searching for “GettyImages”).

What pisses me off the most is people who upload Cartoons without permission from the artist. It’s why I run the #CreditTheCartoonist program on Twitter, which has resulted in a number of cartoonists following me there:

Here’s a cool thing! #creditthecartoonist and #tagthetoon Holy cow if I had a dime for every time my work is shared... I’d be typing this on a solid gold laptop. Thanks Angela Marx for doing this. Everybody credit artists and link to them!! https://t.co/S4P1TcDROg

Artists like:

Mike Luckovich of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Clay Bennett of the Chattanooga Times Free Press

@BennettCartoons on Twitter:

Cartoonists pay their mortgage and insurance and electric bills with the income they get from their work.How would you like it if someone came into your place of work and stole your work and then used it for free?

STOP STEALING. Or sometime soon we are going to see another damned purge of the Image Library because some of you can’t follow a simple rule.
