It's Sunday. Let's Talk BOOKS 📚

Let’s talk about anything about books:

  • Your favorite book(s)
  • Your favorite author(s)
  • Your book you wrote
  • What book you still remember 20 years later (or 10 or 5 or 1)
  • What book astounded you and why

Stuff like that.

Today I’d like to talk about …

The book that made the biggest splash as THE BOOK TO READ when you were young.

Did you read it?

Do you remember what you thought about it?

Would you be willing to read it again, today?

For me, that book (okay, novella) was Jonathan Livingston Seagull (JLS).

Some interesting news (not quite current, the article is from 2021) about that novella. Apparently, Richard Bach had a near-death experience and six months later finally produced the 4th part of the original novella published clear back in 1970, per FlyingMag: https://www.flyingmag.com/pilots-places-pilots-adventures-more-after-43-years-jonathan-livingston-seagull-finally-completed/

There have been many (MANY) reviews of this story, but I found this one and it spoke to me:

Like the author of that review, I found the story to be allegorical in nature. Decades later, I still remember the vivid resiliance of JLS, his drive to achieve what others derided as nonsense.

Sounds a bit like the modern Democratic Party, in certain ways.

Have a dream, reach for that dream to turn it into reality, bit by bit.

I don’t have a lot more for you today, still having disrupted sleep and woke up today at 3:12 pm.

What book in this category did you all read back in the day?
