All of those white voters who voted for Donald Trump? I’m sure one hell of a lot of them are racists, you have only to watch any video of Trump’s rallies during the election season just ended to see that is true.
But that’s not why they voted for Trump.
The unemployment numbers that the Obama Administration has reached, under 5% for the nation as a whole are tremendously better than those in place when Obama took office in January 2009, which were about 9% to 10% nationwide.
But there’s a dirty little secret about jobs and income that no one talked about during the election season — it didn’t turn around for everyone, everywhere in America at the same rate.
There are entire cities in the Rust Belt (where I believe you’ll find Trump did remarkably well yesterday) where generations of families were employed in manufacturing of steel and automobiles at very good rates of pay.
Today, like Flint, Michigan, those cities are in dire straights, with manufacturing fled long ago to nations across the oceans which border America.
What did Donald Trump say and say and say: I’ll Make America Great Again
Most of the Left took that to mean that he was going to Make America great for White People Again, at the expense of people of color. Racist talk.
But Trump also told those people that The Establishment had shipped all of their good-paying jobs overseas. That he, as President, would be bringing them back. “Believe me!”
Now, the chattering class of the Punditry laughed that off, as Trump telling just one more lie to his obviously oblivious supporters. So did a hell of a lot of Democratic strategists and Democratic Party members and voters.
Because the man is a liar. There is no doubt about it, it’s on video a thousand times.
But the disillusioned former middle-class people who had lost their way of life when their jobs went to Mexico and after that anywhere the labor price was lower? They believed him because they wanted their way of life back.
They just want to go back to work at a good job, for good pay, and they are more than willing to work hard at that job. After all, they aren’t liberals in the big cities on the coast where everyone is getting an easy life on the Taxpayer’s dime, are they? Hell no, they are patriots, who send their sons and daughters to wear the Uniform in Service to their nation.
Now, anyone with any sense who doesn’t live in the Rust belt (where Hillary lost the worst) knows that these people have been hoodwinked into believing something that simply will not happen. There is no way any President can bring manufacturing back to this country, where labor costs are magnitudes higher than in the nations where our factories all moved to.
But if your family used to have a nice house and sent your kids to college and took paid vacations and saved for retirement for three generations and it all just dribbled away and never came back? Would you vote for someone who told you — no, who promised you “Believe me!” — that he could and would make that happen?
Of course you would, what did you have to lose? Another four years with a Liberal Democrat in the Office making things worse for you and yours? Hell, that already happened TWICE.
When Trump and the Republicans fail to bring a single manufacturer back to America in the first six months of his presidency, a rumbling will begin in the Rust Belt. If you all think the Tea Party brought about a seismic event in the Republican Party (over taxes being too high), imagine what is going to happen when these promised jobs and way of life fail to re-appear.
We might have just lived through a horrendously disappointing election result night, and most of us were aghast to find ourselves looking at a Donald Trump presidency.
But I tell you three times — it will be nothing compared to what will go down when even the gullible, former-middle-class, white voters who just installed a grifter in the White House figure out that he GRIFTED THEM to win an election.
Independence Day 2017 is my prediction for when it all comes apart.
