Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another.

Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.

#Loving Music Monday

There are times in life when all one hopes for is another day, another spin on the Wheel of Life, and I’m in one up to my chin.

The really amazing thing about dealing with the repercussions of the news that a family member is dying is how you see someone in a different light.

I’ve been at odds with my oldest child for some years now, both of us smart and hard-headed, neither one of us able or willing to give so much as an inch. But the news last month of her father’s impending death from an ultra-aggressive form of cancer (already stage IV and untreatable) has shifted our reality here at Chez Angie.

Where the past decade has been, far too often, full of arguments over ‘who is right’; the past five or six weeks has been an an episode of calm and teamwork. It’s just a shame that it’s taken DOOM to bring the two of us to a better place in our personal relationship. Love will out, and it often shows its power and strength when we need it most.

#SilverLinings are something I’ve come to believe in, so this week is dedicated to Love, in all its many forms.

We’ll start out our musical interlude with a song which describes perfectly my view from ground zero, that love isn’t a solitary emotion felt by an individual but a melding of two or more lives in their journey through this life

Josh Groban — You Raise Me Up

This version of Leonard Cohen’s masterpiece is my favorite version — where else will you see a virtuoso in a velvet dinner coat and barefoot on stage with a world class orchestra singing a melody which describes a tale of woe and redemption all wrapped up in the joy and pain of loving…

k. d. lang —  Hallelujah

As the theme to a movie it was just another summer blockbuster song, but the lyrics of The Power of Love show its a universal message that we can all understand…

Huey Lewis and the News — The Power of Love

A song I never would have known about, except for my oldest granddaughter. Yes, it’s pop music, but it’s an addictive tune and the story of True Love calls to us all, even those of us who long ago decided that the risk wasn’t worth the fight when it comes to Love…

Taylor Swift — Love Story

The message of unconditional love which all mothers try and impart to their daughters and sons…

Ed Sheeran — Perfect

So my message today is to look around you, your family and friends, and be thankful for the people and the love in your life. It’s so very precious and we never acknowledge that enough until we’re faced with its loss.

How was your weekend?
