For years now I’ve been reading about “corporate Democrats”, which is often used to denigrate Democratic candidates, inferring that they are bought and sold candidates, wholly owned by the corporations.
This is a false claim based on a single rule of the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
Here’s the deal, straight from the FEC:
Contributions aggregating over $200For each contribution that exceeds $200, either by itself or when added to the contributor’s previous contributions made during the same calendar year, records must identify that contribution by:
Amount; Date of receipt; and Contributor’s full name and mailing address, occupation and employer.
Keep in mind that candidate campaign committees which report their donor information to the FEC now generally ask EVERY DONOR, no matter the size of their donation, for this information — and you can see that by donating to any Democratic candidate via ActBlue.com.
