There’s a candidate I’ve been supporting for a seat in a state very distant from my own (Washington) — the US Senate seat in South Carolina.
Every.Single.Vote will matter more this year than in most others, because of the unique circumstances of a con man in the White looking at criminal charges if he doesn’t win re-election and keep his Office.
So we simply cannot take any votes for granted this. Not where I live, not where you live and most certainly not in a state where the US Senator incumbent is (R) Lindsey Graham, who has been holding that seat since 2002 (18 years).
A Republican US Senator in 2020, one who has held that seat for nearly a generation? How hard would it be to unseat him? Three election cycles have come and gone and Graham has continued to walk away the winner each time.
WHAT MAKES THIS YEAR ANY DIFFERENT?
Lindsey Graham was once the sidekick to the late John McMain, who was a powerful US Senator until cancer took his life in 2018. McCain had met and formed a close friendship another US Senator (I) Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, in the late 1990s (over the Clinton impeachment) and when Graham joined the Senate in 2003, they soon became known as “The Three Amigos”. During their halcyon years in the Senate, these three became close friends.
McCain whose status during his POW years in Vietnam gave him instant gravitas in the Senate most take years to earn, he was often looked to for public comment by print and TV mainstream media outlets and became a household name to anyone who even dabbled in shows like Meet The Press (his favorite DC show, which he guested on an amazing 73 times during his Senate years).
Lieberman was the Independent from Connecticut… sort of. He lost the Democratic Party primary in his re-election bid in 2006, then went on to run as a 3rd Party/Independent candidate in the Connecticut for Lieberman Party (I swear it’s true) during the general election, and won. Of course his winning as a 3rd Party candidate created just for him was likely due to Al Gore picking him as his VP running mate in the 2000 election. I can’t recall a single other thing of note about the man.
For about a decade these three men were hailed by the Press as a group made up of a Maverick (McCain) who could reach across aisles and make deals; an Independent who still used his old Democratic Party ties to do the same; and an Air Force Reservist who Served in the JAG Corp while he was a US Senator (if there is a single item which shows him in good light & distinction other than that, it has escaped my search). I’m not sure why the Press was so enamored of the group, other than these three always seemed to be on hand for the Press, when called to appear, like this time:
Today, however, the Three Amigos are but a footnote to history. McCain left this mortal coil two years ago, in August 2018, Joe Lieberman left the US Senate in 2013, and the only one left in his seat in the US Senate is Lindsey Graham.
This Lindsey Graham, the one who just can’t seem to find stable ground to stand upon, as time goes by…
The bottom line here is that Senator Lindsey Graham is just as bad as Trump, when it comes to laying down a line of bullshit whenever the moment suits him — and that’s a man without a moral compass sufficient to be a United States Senator.
The Trumpublicans in general and Lindsey Graham in particular
are NOT going gently into that good night on Nov 3rd, they will be dragged fighting and kicking and screaming over the finish line which will (if there is any decency left in the world) end many of their Congressional and Legislative careers and send Donald J Trump to courtrooms and (hopefully) to jails shortly after Jan 21, 2021.
Which brings me to the Democratic Party candidate for the US Senate in the state of South Carolina, Jaime Harrison who IS going to unseat Lindsey Graham. Why not start that support with the members of #TheJaimeHarriThon promotion crew, who will be making a loud noise this Labor Day and help us reach out to the voters in South Carolina and encourage them to all vote for Jaime Harrison on Nov 3rd.
I first heard about Jaime Harrison last year, it was his backstory which spoke to me:
To Jaime Harrison, character always matters, hard work is in his bones, doing what’s right is a way of life, and making good on his debt of gratitude to South Carolina is a lifelong commitment.
Growing up, Jaime’s family often struggled to pay the bills. He has vivid memories of having the lights turned off and searching for change to put gas in the family car.
Jaime understands that for working people, barriers exist to achieving the American Dream. He started Harrison Helps to knock down some of those barriers and create opportunity for all South Carolinians.
The son of a single teenage mom, and raised by his grandparents in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Jaime overcame the challenges of grinding poverty with the help of teachers and mentors who believed in him. From a mobile home to Yale University and Georgetown Law, Jaime never forgot who he was or where he came from.
He is only 44 years old, but he has already lived a lot!
Raised by his mother and grandparents, he leapt into a life of public service at 18 — when he was selected for the United States Senate Youth Program
The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service.
Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in meetings with the president and a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science. To apply, please contact your state selection contact.
which helped lead him to a scholarship to attend Yale University, where he majored in political science. After graduating from Yale, he taught at his old High School for a year and in 1998 he was appointed COO of Summit College (now known as Peer Forward), a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of low-income youth by connecting them to college and a career.
He was working to help others climb up the ladder of success after him. Now that’s the kind of leadership that blazes trails and opens doors.
In 2004, he earned his Juris Doctor (Doctor of Jurispudence) from Georgetown University Law.
In 2004, Jaime Harrison was all of 28 years old and he had already accomplished more than many people do in their entire life.
In the past 16 years, Jaime has only added to his experience in politics and the Law. He went to work for James Clyburn (US House Rep, District 6, South Carolina) as director of Floor operations in the US House when Clyburn was the Majority Whip. He served as the executive director of the Democratic Caucus and became Vice Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party. He eventually went to work for the Podesta Group (who represented not just corporations, but non-profits and governmental entities) as a lobbyist for a number of years and when asked about that work he says: "It's how I paid back my $160,000 of student loan debt.” Please note, he doesn’t dodge the question, he answers it with the bottom line truth — his education was expensive and he cleaned his student loans before he turned 50 (like most people do today), in a job where he got to do much good for a lot of non-profits and government agencies.
In 2013, Jaime became the Chair of the Democratic Party of South Carolina and he was the first black person to ever hold that office.
Jaime saw his future and he WORKED towards it for 26 years, getting ready for this moment in time, when he could take on an incumbent Republican in the US Senate and win that seat!

where you’ll see all you really need to know about Jaime to help support his run for this critical seat in South Carolina:
Son of a single mom. Proud husband & father. Lover of @Marvel, @Bojangles, and fighting for working folks in South Carolina. Running for US Senate.
He’s a good man, a smart man and he’s been running a very smart campaign to take that Senate seat from the unworthy Lindsey Graham and he is so, so close to closing the gap and winning right now:
Harrison is putting up a formidable fight in deep-red South Carolina, narrowly outpacing Graham in fundraising and tying him in recent polls.
This is the time, this is the candidate, and this is the race that the whole South is watching because they know it’s the one which will help tilt the 2020 election and roll up a big blue wave to help oust Trumpublicans across the country on November 3rd.
Help ensure that Jaime comes out a winner on November 3rd.
He has worked hard for decades to have this chance and he deserves your support.
You can donate from anywhere, if you live in South Carolina you can volunteer (for COVID-safe outreach to the other voters in your state).
